The compression effect is created in circular knitted but also flat knitted stockings via an inserting a compression thread in the rows of stiches. This is standard for all medical compression stockings that carry the RAL quality mark.

It is also common, especially in the case of "support" and light circular knitted compression stockings in the lower compression classes, to generate the compression effect via a compression thread knitted into the meshes.
